Denmark got North Macedonia in the playoff for the World Cup – and missed out on Sweden. That was what national team captain Brian Riemer thought was the most important thing about the draw.

"I would have liked to avoid Sweden, who with their star players have far more quality than they have shown. Besides that, we have a history with Sweden that would have made it a very special match," he says after the draw.

Denmark will face North Macedonia in Parken on March 26 and if they win, they will face Ireland or the Czech Republic in a possible final five days later.

Denmark missed a huge opportunity against Belarus and Scotland during the latest World Cup qualifiers, but Riemer is determined that his team will secure a World Cup ticket in March.

It's a draw that will ensure we secure a World Cup ticket. That's our big goal and our expectation.
