According to a statement from Finanstilsynet, Nordea's subsidiary Nordea Finans Danmark did not have sufficient knowledge of large parts of its customer base when issuing credit cards.

Nordea Finans Danmark describes the complaint as unreasonable and says it had full knowledge of customers and risks in the business, whose customers are said to be ordinary Danes and well-established companies.

"There is a difference between something that could be better and something that is punishable. That is why we must speak out," writes Tore Falkenberg, CEO of Nordea Finans Denmark, in a statement.

The report comes after a raid almost three years ago.
