The Danish filmmaker and journalist Jørgen Leth has passed away, 88 years old, writes Politiken.

Leth debuted with the poetry collection "Gult lys" in 1962 and the short film "Stopförbud" the following year. After that, he wrote and directed about 40 feature and documentary films, including "Den perfekta människan".

Leth's autobiography "Det uperfekte menneske" ("Den operfekta människan") sparked a violent debate in Denmark when it was published in 2005, as it described his sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in Haiti. However, the book was filmed in 2010 with Lars von Trier as producer.

Leth's last work became the poetry collection "Zombie" which was published this summer.
