Three Danish citizens have been arrested suspected of large-scale cocaine smuggling. Two of them were arrested by Portuguese police on board a boat with nearly 1.7 tons of cocaine in the cargo, the third in Spain.

Even a British citizen has been arrested, reports DR with reference to Spanish authorities.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, 50 soldiers participated in the action out in the Atlantic, about 700 kilometers from the island of Flores which belongs to the Azores.

At the same time, searches were carried out in Torremolinos in Spain, where 63,000 euro could be seized.

According to information, one of the Danish citizens is said to be the leader of the group that carried out the smuggling.

The investigation began, according to Spanish authorities, in March 2024, after information about drug smuggling from South America to Europe with sailboats.

The action in the Atlantic was carried out in June. Another suspect is on the loose.
