The Russian world No. 1 lost 0–6, 0–6 to Italy's Matteo Berrettini and completely lost his temper at the start of the second set.

After hitting a forehand into the net, he hit the racket on the ground, picked it up and threw it into the tarp behind the baseline. He then picked up the racket again and hit it seven times into the ground before placing what was left in a trash can.

The Russian player received a warning from the referee and is likely to face a heavy fine.

Berrettini became only the fifth player to defeat a world No. 1 6–0, 6–0 since the ATP rankings were introduced in 1973.
