The incident took place when Medvedev was trailing 5–7, 3–5 in his best-of-three-set match against Djokovic.
After a rally, the ball bounced off the wall behind the baseline, and Medvedev hit it into the crowd. It struck a spectator in the face. The spectator sat for a long time holding his eye before leaving the stands.
In the end, Swedish umpire Mohamed Lahyani disqualified the world No. 5, who is known for his hot temper.
Afterwards, Medvedev expressed remorse and wanted to get in touch with the spectator.
"I just hope he's okay. That's the most important thing," he said, according to the BBC.
In the final, Djokovic will face Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
