It was in his fourth throw for the day during Paavo Nurmi Games in Åbo that world fifth Daniel Ståhl took himself over 70 meters and he celebrated with a dance right outside the cage, reports SVT.
I enjoyed competing here as always, says Ståhl to Yle.
Ståhl has not thrown that far since he won the World Championship gold in Budapest 2023 with a throw of 71.46 meters in the final round.
His 70.19 in Finland was however only enough for a third place. World third Kristjan Ceh, Slovenia, won with 70.61 meters ahead of world second Matt Denny, Australia, with 70.52.
It was really high class in this competition. Three guys over 70 meters in Europe is quite crazy, says Kristjan Ceh to Yle.
It lacked one centimeter for Ceh to equal Ståhl's stadium record from 2022.
It's nice that I got to keep it, says the Swede.
Ståhl had five approved throws in the competition with the series 66.42–69.24–70.19–68.68–68.75.
