The European Championships will be held in Birmingham in mid-August and Ståhl showed at Saturday's Swedish Championships that the form is there.

He decided the competition with his first throw, measuring 67.12. In the third round he improved to 67.23, and in the final round of the competition he really hit the target.

His 69.85 is a new season's best by 25 centimetres.

"Incredibly nice to finish the competition so well. I tried to find the rhythm and feeling at the beginning of the competition and I felt that I had a lot of recoil in my body, fairly long movements but not much feeling," Ståhl says.

A conversation with his coach Staffan Jönsson during the competition made everything fall into place. The recipe was to be more relaxed and thereby create more speed.

"Then everything fell into place immediately," says Ståhl.
