The second throw measured 67.66, well over the qualifying mark of 66 metres. However, after the judges reviewed the throw, it turned out that Daniel Ståhl had stepped over.
"At that moment I didn't find out that it was a foul. I was happy at the time. Then the competition director came up to me and told me," says Ståhl in the mixed zone.
The third and final throw was then also invalid.
Despite that, Ståhl was in good shape and after the second qualifying group was completed, Ståhl was able to breathe a sigh of relief and is now ready for the European Championship final.
"It's just a matter of reloading. It was a good throw, good pressure. But I feel pretty calm to move on," says Ståhl.
The discus final will be decided on Thursday.
Ståhl is chasing the first European Championship gold of his career. He previously has one Olympic gold medal and three World Championship gold medals.
