Left Party MP Daniel Riazat Resigns Amidst Leadership Dispute

The Member of Parliament Daniel Riazat is leaving the Left Party's executive committee. He has called the decision not to let Lorena Delgado Varas represent the Left Party in the Parliament one of the biggest scandals in the party's history. The Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar is not worried about a split in the party.

On Facebook, Daniel Riazat writes:

"If I had stayed, I would of course never voted for internal and external chaos, which this decision has meant", writes Daniel Riazat in a post on Facebook.

Riazat, who was a substitute in the party board, jumped off before the decision on Lorena Delgado Varas was made.

"Wish I didn't have to make this decision, but it was unfortunately unavoidable. Continuation follows", he writes finally in his post.

Many in The Left Party have signed a petition in support of Delgado Varas, who is no longer allowed to represent the party in the Riksdag.

"Have to swallow it"

The party leader Nooshi Dadgostar commented on the situation in connection with a press conference on food prices.

It's a decision that will be implemented. She can't represent us in the Riksdag, says Dadgostar.

I understand that it can evoke feelings, but the decision is made and now you have to swallow it.

On April 7, Member of Parliament Delgado Varas shared a post on social media claiming that "Zionist Jews" control the world through control over politics and banks.

The party leadership believes that Delgado Varas has shown poor discretion on repeated occasions and therefore cannot represent V in the Riksdag. However, she can stay as a party member.

Delgado Varas has so far not wanted to leave the Riksdag, but the party leadership wants to give her more time before taking any new measures. If she chooses to stay, she has no room left on V's party secretariat and she cannot attend the Riksdag group meetings.

"No split"

According to Nooshi Dadgostar, there is no major split in the party.

It's not a split, it's a number of individual people who have said things, she says.

According to her, it sounds completely different at internal meetings than on social media.

According to V's economic policy spokesperson Ida Gabrielsson, it's not about many people backing Delgado Varas' actions, but about wanting to back her up as a person.

The same picture is given by the party leader Dadgostar.

One supports a person who may be feeling bad in such a specific situation, she says.

It evokes feelings and it's about a person and nothing else.

On the question of whether Dadgostar's party leadership is challenged, she answers:

I feel very calm, actually, so there are no problems.
