Composer Daniel Nelson is awarded this year's Christ Johnson Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. The prize of 200,000 kronor is described as the country's premier composer prize.

Nelson receives the award for his oratorio "Chaplin songs", which was premiered by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2022. According to the jury, he has "with powerful musical language and direct address, with accuracy and sensitivity, portrayed Charlie Chaplin's famous monologue from the film "The Dictator" from 1940".

The Lilla Christ Johnson Prize of 80,000 SEK goes to Simon Söfelde for his orchestral work "Fugato".

The awards will be presented by King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's ceremonial gathering on November 24.
