During the night towards Thursday, 50 hand grenades were found in two separate vehicle checks in Malmö and Arlöv.

The first discovery was made in an inspection of a parked vehicle in a parking garage. A while later, further discoveries were made, following suspicion that there were more suspected hazardous objects in the vehicles.

It is based on an investigation case, where these two cars have been interesting to check and it turned out that the information was correct, said the police's press spokesperson Filip Annas earlier to TT.

After the objects were assessed as live, the police called in the national bomb squad to secure the hand grenades.

The police see a connection between the discoveries, which are said to be one of the largest seizures made in Malmö, according to a press release.

”With this effort, we have potentially prevented 50 violent acts in Sweden”, says Rasem Chebil, operational manager of serious crimes in Malmö, in the press release.

Both cases are being investigated as particularly serious crimes against the law on flammable and explosive goods. No one is being detained.
