The avalanche danger in the area - where Tärnaby and Hemavan are located, among other places - is assessed as significant, with dangerous conditions, which corresponds to level three on the five-point scale.
Skiers and snowmobilers are warned of unstable drift snow, which may collapse on steep slopes. It is also difficult to determine which slopes are safe because the weaknesses in the snow are not visible on the surface. The snow may feel stable, but a very large avalanche can still be triggered right next to it.
The forecast is valid until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
In the Kebnekaise Mountains, the Abisko and Riksgränsen Mountains, the southern Lapland Mountains, the southern Jämtland Mountains and the western Härjedalen Mountains, the avalanche danger is assessed as moderate, level two on the scale.
