During the 2025 income year, borrowers paid an average of just over SEK 28,000 in interest expenses, which gave an interest deduction of just over SEK 8,300.
The average is clearly higher in affluent municipalities such as Lidingö and Nacka. Danderyd tops the list with SEK 21,800 in deductions per person.
Malå municipality comes in at the bottom, with an average of SEK 4,300.
"In practice, this means that large parts of the country are involved in subsidizing the exclusive areas, especially in the big cities. On the other hand, city dwellers have higher interest expenses, which makes it more expensive to live there," says Zmarta economist Ola Söderlind.
Men received an average of SEK 10,100 in interest deductions, compared to SEK 8,800 for women, according to Zmarta.
