At least 14 people have been confirmed dead after a landslide in Tal al-Hawa in Gaza City on Wednesday night. Among them are several children, according to the Gaza Civil Defense.
The six-storey building had four apartments on each floor. More than 100 people are now feared trapped in the rubble.
Authorities in Hamas-run Gaza are blaming Israel, Al Jazeera reports. The building was reportedly hit in Israeli attacks in both 2024 and 2025, and residents had been urged not to return home.
"They have no other choice. With neither tents nor houses available, they are living in cracked, damaged buildings despite the risk of collapse," civil defense spokesman Mahmud Basal told AFP.
According to the UN, most of the settlements in the Gaza Strip have been reduced to ruins by Israeli attacks.
