NHL star Rasmus Dahlin is taking an indefinite break from the season. The break is due to his fiancée's previous heart failure. No one would want to be in his shoes and deal with what he's dealt with. He undoubtedly has everyone's support. This is bigger than hockey, says coach Lindy Ruff.

During a summer trip to France, Carolina Matovac suffered sudden heart failure and needed CPR. She was on life support for several weeks before undergoing a heart transplant.

Coach Lindy Ruff says that Rasmus Dahlin will be out indefinitely and that the Swede has the team's full support.

"I think it's been incredibly difficult. Not easy at all. I completely understand what this young man is going through. I don't think you can describe it, and I don't think you can understand what he's feeling. No one would want to be in his shoes and deal with what he's dealt with. He has everyone's support, without a doubt. This is bigger than hockey," Ruff said.

Personal and family come before hockey. Hockey is our job, it's our lifeline. But family and private life always come before everything else.

25-year-old Dahlin has scored one goal and nine points in 14 games this season, for a Buffalo that is last in the Eastern Conference.

Rasmus Dahlin has been selected for Tre Kronor's team for the Olympics in Milan in February.
