The score was 1–1 at the end of the second period when Rasmus Dahlin scored with a direct shot from the blue line and sent the puck straight into the opponent's goal. The Swede's effort gave Buffalo the lead, which they held onto until the end of the match.
Swedish-American Mattias Samuelsson contributed with an assist when Buffalo center Tyson Kozak scored 3–1.
Samuelsson got the puck right to the net and it hit my shin guard. I think it bounced off the goalie and then back to me, and then I got more or less an open goal, says Tyson Kozak to NHL.com.
Pretty unreal.
Buffalo took home the meeting with 5–3.
Other Swedish players in the NHL did not have the same celebratory ending to the evening. Elias Lindholm scored the first goal when his Boston met Los Angeles, but ultimately saw his team defeated with a 2–7 loss. And Nashville's point king Filip Forsberg scored a goal, but his team still lost 1–4 to St Louis.
