21-year-old D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, has previously been linked to the investigation into the murder and has now been arrested, police say.
However, defense attorneys argue that the current evidence will not prove that he murdered the 14-year-old or is guilty of her death.
"We will vigorously defend David's innocence," they said in an email.
The girl's remains were found in the trunk of a car registered to Burke, who was on tour at the time, in September of last year. The car was apparently abandoned and was about to be towed away when workers noticed a strong odor coming from the back of the car, according to Rolling Stone .
The girl found in the car had been missing since 2024 and is estimated to have been 14 years old at the time of the murder.
D4vd became a TikTok sensation in 2022 with his song "Romantic homicide".
