The draw in Atlanta was not much to cheer about for either the Czech Republic or South Africa. Both teams are on one point heading into the group stage, when the Czech Republic faces Mexico and South Africa faces South Korea.

The Czech Republic had the most to complain about after taking the lead early on. Michal Sadílek scored to make it 1–0 in the sixth minute.

A late penalty then denied the Czechs three points. Teboho Mokoena converted an 11-meter penalty to make it 1–1 in the 83rd minute.
