The couple has two children together and Melissa Hoskins was also a successful cyclist. She cycled in two Olympic Games – 2012 and 2016 – for Australia.

In December 2023, Hoskins was found injured by the roadside after a car accident. The injuries were so severe that her life could not be saved at the hospital.

The couple had argued about a house renovation when Rohan Dennis left to calm down. Hoskins lay down on the car at the same time as her husband drove at low speed. At an intersection, she jumped off and opened the door, but then Dennis drove away.

Your wife was holding on to the car as you drove away. That's when she fell and died, said Judge Ian Press, according to the news agency AFP, when the verdict was announced.

34-year-old Dennis was arrested after the incident, which was initially classified as manslaughter, but later changed to gross negligence causing bodily harm.

The court took into account in its decision the fact that the former World Champion acknowledged that he had acted recklessly and that he is now the sole guardian of the couple's children. He is sentenced to 17 months' probation.

Road cyclist Rohan Dennis won two World Championship gold medals in time trial, two World Championship gold medals in team time trial and took Olympic bronze in the time trial event in Tokyo 2021.
