The police were alerted to the accident just before midnight. A man in his 50s had been hit by a car in central Karlstad.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and is now being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The driver, a man in his 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, gross negligence in traffic and causing grievous bodily harm.
