Some 40 cyclists were taken to hospital, 15-20 of them with serious injuries, after two crashes during a stage race in southern Germany
The first crash occurred in a curve between Bad Dürrheim and Biesingen. It caused congestion among the cyclists further back which led to a second mass crash, according to the police in a statement.
Between 15 and 20 people were seriously injured, however, no one has life-threatening injuries, according to the police to the news agency AFP. An additional 20-25 cyclists were taken to hospital and around 35 received care on the spot.
The accident occurred during the third and final stage. The race was interrupted after the accident.
