There are strong indications that the attack was staged from Iran, according to Polish Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski. However, the attack on the Polatom facility reportedly did not go as planned.

The attempt to breach security was stopped, the minister says in a podcast for the news channel TVN24+.

However, Gawkowski emphasizes that the apparent connection to Iran may be a cover-up. An investigation is underway.

Polatom is Poland's leading hub for nuclear research, developing particle accelerators for industry and medicine, among other things. The facility, southeast of Warsaw, is home to the country's only research reactor.

Poland is currently building its first nuclear power plant.
