A customs inspector who accidentally fired a shot in a hotel room in Luleå is being punished by the Customs Authority with a 25 percent deduction in salary for five days, reports SVT News Norrbotten.

According to NSD, the customs officer had forgotten that the magazine was in place when cleaning their weapon. During a blind firing, a shot was fired that penetrated a wall and landed in the bathroom. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred in January.

”The Personnel Responsibility Board makes the assessment that extra high demands must be placed on a customs inspector and weapons instructor's handling of firearms and views seriously the customs inspector's breach of routines and work methods”, writes the Customs Authority in its decision according to SVT.
