Last year Liljestrand was booed by the audience. This year, Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand (M) will not speak at the opening of the Gothenburg Film Festival.

Liljestrand has been invited, but declined.

"She has visited the festival several times during her time as Minister of Culture, but is unable to attend this year as she needs to prioritize other commitments," her press secretary Harald Eiken wrote in a message to TT.

The Minister of Culture usually gives the opening speech at the film festival, but Liljestrand's speech last year did not go down well.

It is not "politics' job" to be the industries' "best friends and representatives in government," she said.

It is also not the job of politicians to demand more and more tax money from citizens because they cannot stand up for their priorities, she added.

The film festival's artistic director Pia Lundberg later described the speech as "aggressive" to Göteborgs-Posten.
