42 Skåne authors and cultural workers have signed a petition calling for a Palestinian author to be allowed to continue as a sanctuary author in Lund, Sydsvenskan reports.

After Expressen revealed before Christmas that Bisan Edwan had written laudatory social media posts about Hamas, which is designated a terrorist organization, politicians in Lund want to end her stay in the sanctuary. In December, Anders Almgren (S) and Rasmus Törnblom (M) wrote in a statement to Sydsvenskan that they want to end their collaboration with Edwan.

The Skåne cultural workers emphasize that Edwan wrote the posts before she became a sanctuary writer and believe that the principle of keeping politicians at arm's length should also apply here.

Bisan Edwan writes in a letter to Expressen that the quotes from her social media "have been taken out of their original context and illegally presented as alleged support for something criminal."
