According to an SVT investigation, several regions are planning to replace KUB with the more accurate NIPT. KUB is currently used to examine the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus. When KUB shows an abnormality, NIPT is often used as a follow-up.

The new EU rules on medical tests will be introduced by 2028 at the latest. They are expected to lead to a general phasing out of KUB.

Both tests have advantages and disadvantages. NIPT is more accurate, but involves higher costs. At the same time, KUB can detect abnormalities that NIPT cannot.
