Cuba has initiated the release of regime-critical prisoners as part of the agreement with the USA, where the USA in turn lifts the designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The information about the first prisoners being released came from relatives on Wednesday.
In total, 553 prisoners who have been convicted of "various crimes" will be released in Cuba. Several of them were arrested when they participated in regime-critical protests.
The announcement about the USA lifting the terrorist label came from the outgoing President of the USA, Joe Biden, on Tuesday. The Vatican has been involved in the negotiations regarding the release of prisoners in Cuba.
