Just before 1 p.m., a futures contract for delivery of North Sea oil next month costs just over $98 per barrel.
The price drop comes as market hopes for peace in the Middle East have increased.
As recently as Monday, the price of North Sea oil hovered around $115 per barrel.
Price levels can be compared to around $70 per barrel before the US and Israel began bombing Iran on February 28.
