The day after Pope Francis' funeral, long queues formed into the Santa Maria Maggiore church with mourning people who wanted to see his grave.

Francis is the first pope in over 100 years who has not been buried in St. Peter's Church in the Vatican. Instead, he himself chose Santa Maria Maggiore church for his final rest.

The church, which is one of the most important sanctuaries in Rome, was built in the 4th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In the church, there is an icon of Mary that Francis was particularly fond of and used to pray to, especially before important foreign trips to gain extra strength.

Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 88 years old.
