The legendary Mario Lemieux long held the scoring record in Pittsburgh. Now another player is the best in the history of the NHL club: Sidney Crosby. "I've been eyeing that number for a while," says the star after two points in the 4-3 win after penalties against Montreal.

1–1 after 7:58 minutes of the first period meant that the Canadian was noted for his 1,723rd point in Pittsburgh – and thus tied the club record of the legendary Mario Lemieux.

With an assist on Rickard Rakell's 2–1 power play, Sidney Crosby became the leading scorer in Pittsburgh history.

It's a bit of mixed feelings, because I've been eyeing that number for a while, he tells NHL.com

The hockey gods really forced me to earn it; it feels like. But to get the win, to win on penalties, everything just fell into place.

Corrected version: Crosby has not been injured. This removes the last paragraph in the body of the text.
