Israel's ultra-conservative Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir suggested in December last year that crocodiles could be placed around prisons to prevent imprisoned Palestinians from escaping.

On Thursday, he wrote on his Facebook : "Are you thinking about running away? Think again" on a picture of him and a crocodile.

Israeli media reports that Ben Gvir wants to place the reptiles at Ketziot prison in southern Israel.

The new regulation regarding crocodiles was pushed through on Wednesday.

Israel's corresponding nature conservation authority has previously opposed Ben Gvir's proposal, as has the country's prison authority, which has criticised the proposal.
