Several countries, including Ireland and Spain, are boycotting Eurovision because Israel is allowed to participate.
Denmark has chosen to remain in the competition. The Danish public service broadcaster DR has, among other things, referred to the shared desire to create an event "that is apolitical and inclusive".
In a debate article in Kulturmonitor, 14 authors, journalists and professors have criticized the public service broadcaster for that decision, DR reports.
"DR has made a political decision to stay," the article authors write.
According to them, remaining in the competition is just as political as withdrawing from it.
DR writes in a comment that Danish participation is not an "expression of support for individual countries or political agendas."
