The newspaper reports that the Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has opened a case against Ronaldo, who is therefore officially suspended until further notice. The case is described as “urgent”.
After being benched for the entire away match against Norway in the Nations League, 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo left the squad on September 30, despite having two games remaining.
A few days later, he issued a statement attacking national team coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo also apologised to his national team teammates. He said he was prepared to be punished by the Portuguese Football Federation for his actions, but had no plans to quit the national team.
Ronaldo has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal.
