The fuel protests began on Tuesday in response to soaring fuel prices following the Iran war. Initially, protesters disrupted traffic on several roads in the capital, Dublin, with convoys of vehicles. The protests have since expanded to include a blockade of Ireland's only oil refinery.
The protests have prompted the Irish government to call an emergency meeting. The government wants to review possible aid packages that could support the agricultural and transport sectors, among other things.
Several gas stations have run out of fuel after people hoarded gasoline and diesel.
