Federal authorities in the United States have launched a criminal investigation into two agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The two are accused of perjury.

The investigation concerns questioning about the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a Venezuelan man - who was injured in the leg - in connection with a search for irregular migrants in Minneapolis.

The investigation was announced by ICE Deputy Director Todd Lyons on Friday. The two individuals, who were not named, have also been temporarily suspended from active duty.

The announcement came after a federal judge dropped charges against two men who allegedly attacked ICE agents with a broom and a snow shovel on January 14.

Federal ICE's brutal and deadly operations in Minneapolis have been criticized for, among other things, excessive force.
