This was due to several factors, such as a broken alarm, limited knowledge and a high workload. Therefore, the evacuation began too late.
SHK writes that the cause of the sinking was that a large amount of water entered a watertight section, "probably as a result of minor hull damage." The broken alarm meant that the crew did not realize that they were taking on water.
The shipping company's owner tells Piteå-Tidningen that "the Accident Investigation Board is speculating that it was a grounding" and that it is "not compatible with reality."
Four people were on board. Three managed to get onto the boat's timber trailer. The fourth was later found dead in the boat.
