The Spanish police describe it as an entire cell in the cartel having been blown up. Tren de Aragua is responsible for a large part of the drug trafficking originating from Latin America and its organization extends across several countries.
Thirteen people were arrested and four of them have since been remanded in custody. Eight of the arrests took place in Barcelona, two in Madrid and three in A Coruña, Girona and Valencia, reports the Efe news agency, among others. Large quantities of drugs were also reportedly seized.
The organization originated in Venezuela and has found itself at the center of an escalating conflict between the United States and the Venezuelan regime, where the American side speaks of "narco-terrorism" and claims that there are connections between President Nicolás Maduro and the powerful drug cartels.
As part of the same police investigation, a man was arrested in Barcelona last year, who was identified as the brother of a leader within Tren de Aragua who was working to establish the cartel in more countries.
