This compares with 1.7 percent in February.
The decline to 1.6 percent in CPIF inflation in March is in line with preliminary calculations that Statistics Sweden presented last week.
"Fuel prices rose sharply in March and had the largest price change since the 1990s, but were offset by a large decline in electricity prices," said Mikael Nordin, price statistician at Statistics Sweden, according to a press release.
