Frank Lampard's men managed a 1-1 draw away to Blackburn. It was enough to secure promotion from the second division.

In 2001 the club were relegated from the top flight and a downward spiral began. Without their own stadium, home games were played for several seasons in Northampton and Birmingham, and they tumbled through the league system all the way to the fourth division.

The turning point came in 2018. Since then the club has steadily worked its way up. With Viktor Gyökeres in the team, they lost the 2023 play-off match for promotion to the Premier League.

Long-term injured Swedish goalkeeper Oliver Dovin is on the club's books.

Magnus Hedman, Roland Nilsson, Tomas Antonelius and Yasin Ayari are some other Swedes who have played for Coventry.
