One of the twins was initially registered as the father on the child's birth certificate. His identical twin has since, together with the mother, tried to change his name on the birth certificate to his own.
But DNA tests cannot distinguish between the men.
In a ruling from earlier in March, Judge Sir Andrew McFarlane thus stated that the child's "father is one or the other of these two identical twins, but it is not possible to say which."
The court has therefore decided to withdraw parental responsibility for the twin listed on the birth certificate, pending further review of the case.
