Several people witnessed the woman, who was in her 50s, being stabbed by the man she had previously had a relationship with. She had previously reported the man for a crime in the autumn and a restraining order had been issued.
The man was also convicted of violating the no-contact order and of gross unlawful threats against a person who tried to stop the attack. The Court of Appeal considers that the murder was particularly reckless and notes, among other things, that the woman was subjected to a very large number of stab wounds.
