The serious assault took place in May last year at a supported housing facility in Änggården in Gothenburg. The woman was able to call the police herself, but became unconscious in the ambulance and later died.
The man, who had previously been in a relationship with the woman, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the district court for murder and unlawful threats. His sentence will now be confirmed by the Court of Appeal.
He had been discharged from a forensic psychiatric clinic three months earlier, and was not considered to be suffering from a serious mental disorder at the time of the crime.
