The man is sentenced to four years and six months in prison. In the district court, he was sentenced to four years in prison. The doctor is also convicted of gross fraud, gross embezzlement, and gross accounting fraud in several cases.
Five other people are also convicted of gross bribery, with two people receiving prison sentences.
In total, it is estimated that bribes worth 4.6 million kronor were paid to the doctor from five different companies. Two of the companies were run by two former colleagues of his. The other three companies operate in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industry.
The criminal activity took place between 2014 and 2022.
"The Court of Appeal has taken into account in the sentencing that the head of operations has abused his position of trust and been driving the criminal activity. Something that has also been significant in this context is that the criminal activity has been systematic and targeted at public and tax-funded operations," says Court of Appeal Judge Johan Klefbäc in a comment.
The bribes were given in connection with the purchase of, among other things, X-ray equipment for Akademiska Hospital.
