The Court of Appeal for Skåne and Blekinge changes the district court's judgment and acquits two men in a case of extremely serious narcotics crime, according to a press release.
In December 2024, seven people were convicted of handling and transferring large quantities of cocaine and manufacturing amphetamine on a large scale. All of them are from the Helsingborg area or have connections to the area.
The evidence in the case has to a large extent consisted of encrypted chats from Encrochat and Sky ECC. Regarding the two men who are now acquitted, the Court of Appeal does not believe that it is established beyond reasonable doubt that they are behind the aliases that the prosecutor has claimed.
"An example of this is that the defenders have presented chats that suggest that the person who used a SKY ECC alias was abroad on occasions when the defendant appears to have been in the Helsingborg area", says Court of Appeal judge Lars Lindblad in a press release.
