South Korean actor O Yeong-Su is acquitted of sexual assault charges.

The 81-year-old was sentenced last year to eight months of suspended sentence for sexual assault on two occasions. The crimes were allegedly committed in 2017 when O Yeong-Su hugged and kissed a woman on the cheek against her will during a theater performance.

The verdict was appealed and is now being overturned by a South Korean court, writes the BBC . The court refers, among other things, to the fact that O Yeong-Su has undergone training on sexual violence and that the woman's memory may have been distorted because the incident occurred several years ago.

At the same time, the court notes that it is “possible” that O Yeong-Su committed the assault because he has previously apologized to the victim.

O Yeong-Su has been awarded a Golden Globe for his role as the elderly Oh Il-nam in "Squid game", from 2021.
