They claimed to be celebrities and then asked for money. Now a couple in Skåne is sentenced to long prison terms for eight cases of gross fraud, according to Hässleholm district court in a press release.

According to the district court, the plaintiffs have been contacted on social media where the man and woman have pretended to be different Swedish celebrities.

After building up trust, they have asked for help with money. In total, eight plaintiffs have been misled into transferring almost three and a half million kronor to accounts that, among other things, belong to the man and woman.

The man is sentenced to prison for two years and ten months, and will also be deported to his home country. The woman is sentenced to prison for two years and four months. The sentence is slightly lower than the actual sentence value because the district court assesses that she has two small children who will be "negatively affected".

Two more people, a man and a woman, are sentenced for serious money laundering as they enabled the fraud by providing their bank accounts.
