The couple was stopped at Singapore's airport on Friday. They were then supposed to fly to Bali, but were prevented from leaving the country.

This was because the man in the couple had published pictures of himself on social media, where he holds up a banner with the text "Lim go home" at several locations in Singapore. One of the pictures is said to have been taken outside Lim's residence.

Lim, one of Singapore's richest individuals, has owned Valencia CF since 2014, and is the La Liga club's first non-Spanish owner. He was initially popular among supporters, but after failing to get the club's economy in order, many fans have turned against him.

According to Valencia's mayor, Maria Jose Catala, the couple's passports have been seized due to the ongoing investigation.

They can leave their hotel, they are living a relatively normal life in Singapore, but cannot leave the country, says Mayor Catala to Spanish radio.

Singapore has strict laws that restrict critical voices and public gatherings, which also include protests carried out by just one person.

"Valencia CF and La Liga are in contact with the Spanish embassy in Singapore, which has assured that the couple will receive help and advice with everything they need, with the goal of resolving this as soon as possible", the club writes in a statement.
