The UN children's fund UNICEF has compiled a list of countries that are planning or have introduced age restrictions for social media.
Australia was the first to introduce an age limit of 16 last fall. According to UNICEF, work is underway in 35 countries to introduce similar age limits and rules for social media use. The issue is also being discussed within the EU. France, Norway and Portugal are among the countries where age limits have been proposed.
In Sweden, the government has appointed a special investigation into the issue. A first interim report will be released in June, but already in early March Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) said:
I think 15 years is natural.
