It was calm and peaceful, she was surrounded by her closest relatives and fell asleep at the nursing home on Gärdet in Stockholm. She was over 100 years old, with only two months to her 101st birthday, says Marianne Bernadotte's daughter to TT.
In 1961, she married the designer Sigvard Bernadotte, also known as the design prince, (1907-2002) the then King Gustaf VI Adolf's second son, and thereby became a member of the royal family. Prior to that, she moved as a 20-year-old from Helsingborg to Stockholm where she was active as an actress at the Dramaten.
Together with her husband, she established the Bernadotte Research Foundation for Children's Eye Care and an artist's fund with annual scholarship awards. She was appointed an honorary doctor of medicine in 1998 at the Karolinska Institute.
Marianne Bernadotte's closest relatives are her daughter, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
